Petition updateSTOP THE ASHCAKE ROAD LANDFILLUPDATE: Board Votes 4-3 to Approve Landfill

Last night, despite overwhelming opposition from hundreds of Hanover families, the Board of Supervisors narrowly voted 4-3 to approve the Ashcake Road Landfill.

This decision means the majority of our citizen-elected officials prioritized the interests of a dangerous private waste business over the health, safety, and clear wishes of their own constituents. Instead of protecting our community, they've opened the door wider for industrial waste to flood into Hanover County—right next to our homes, wells, and playgrounds.

We sincerely thank the three board members who stood strong, listened to our community, and voted to protect Hanover. Their integrity and commitment to the vision laid out in our county's Comprehensive Plan, "Envision Hanover," sets the example our county needs and deserves.

Changing this property's land use from a borrow pit to a landfill was never advisable—especially after landfill representatives previously stated to the board that this was not their intention. Our community deserves honesty, transparency, and leadership we can trust.

Hanover families will remember who stood with them, and who stood against them.
