We want to thank everyone for signing the petition. It's gotten a lot of attention from the media. Now the hard work begins. We need everyone to stay involved if we are going to stop this deal
The City has started to release a number of reports and video which are all attempting to show what a great project this will be for Alexandria and the surrounding area. Their studies are quite weak. They have hired consultants who support the City's point of view. There is nothing in these reports that support their revenue predictions and they fail -- of course --to address any of the impacts, financial or otherwise, on the community. In other words, the real costs of this "sports and entertainment" complex are not being considered.
It's basically a billion dollar gift to a billionaire who owns several sports teams that should be staying in DC.
We have set up a web site, a facebook page which is updated daily, a twitter link and an instagram page. We would really appreciate it if you would follow these sites as much as possible.
If you are willing to share your email with us that will enable us to send out news, alerts, requests for volunteers, and other information. This is important because the state wants to set up a funding authority to issue bonds in the near future (but they must vote on it) and we need to challenge the propaganda that Mayor Wilson and AEDP are pushing at every step of the way.
The citizens of Alexandria should have the final say in determining if this arena is built at Potomac Yard.
