Beginning the New Year standing up for the Blackfoot River: the application is paused, not withdrawn. We’re asking for a public hearing and for the permit application to be rescinded.
As we enter 2026, we’re calling on Missoula County Commissioners to hold a public hearing on the proposed 64-acre gravel pit and asphalt operation on the Blackfoot River 4 miles upstream of Bonner.
When asked to clarify their plans, Riverside Contracting said on 12/15/25 they are “just exploring options.” But documents they originally submitted to Missoula County show planning consistent with a large-scale gravel mine and asphalt plant across the full 64-acre property, not a limited or hypothetical proposal.
Some places are simply not suitable for industrial development — and the Blackfoot River corridor is one of them. A gravel pit or asphalt operation of any size here would cause irreparable harm.
If the developer truly values this community, there is a clear and responsible step available:
rescinding the permit application.
