🚨 CALL TO ACTION: SHOW UP ON JUNE 16 TO PROTECT NE 159TH ST 🚨
In April, residents of NE 159th Street were blindsided: Miami-Dade County had quietly approved a plan to widen our peaceful 2-lane road into a 5-lane thoroughfare without our input.
We fought back. And we were heard… sort of.
Commissioner Bastien now says the road will be “reduced to 3 lanes... as long as she is in office.” Translation? They could just be delaying the 5-lane plan until after the 2026 election.
That’s not good enough.
This is why we need you at the June 16 meeting with the County and City at 6 PM.
📍 Marjorie and William McDonald Center, 17051 NE 19th Ave, North Miami Beach
➡️ The County will unveil a “new design” but we don’t know if it’s 3 lanes total or 3 lanes + a center turn lane (4 lanes total).
➡️ We don’t know if they’ll still seize private property.
➡️ We don’t know how close traffic will come to homes.
➡️ We don’t know what the actual speed limits, swales, or safety designs will be.
What we do know is this:
🛑 On June 3, Commissioner Bastien passed a resolution to seize City land that still calls for 5 lanes in the Project Background — and still didn’t notify residents.
🛑 The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) still reflects a 5-lane design — which means they can come back and build it anytime unless they amend it.
They’ve told us they’ll propose an amendment to the LRTP.
**We need to hold them to that—**and make sure the final design is locked in before it's too late.
This meeting isn’t about tweaks. It’s about whether your street, your front yard, and your quality of life are protected for good… or until it’s politically convenient to ignore you again.
📣 If you don’t want NE 159th Street to become another congested, noisy, dangerous 5-lane cut-through like 135th…
You need to show up. Speak up. And bring your neighbors.
