Stop taking advantage of students. Let's make accommodation affordable.

Year after year students are exploited by landlords with overpriced, substandard accommodation.
Recently a number of private student accommodation near DCU released prices for the 2018/19 academic year, charging from nearly €8,000 to almost €10,000 for a single room.
This is an increase of 27% on some rooms, which could cost up to €255 a week, taking advantage of the current state of the rental market, preying on students and their parents who are desperate to secure accommodation for the upcoming year.
I am calling on The Minister of Education, Richard Bruton TD and the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy T.D. to work with Universities and their Unions to create more sustainable, affordable accommodation and to stop landlords from exploiting legal loopholes, allowing them to charge whatever they wish to students.
