Dear Petitioners,
There is a solution to stopping chains from taking over Andersonville. Other cities have implemented these measures and we need your additional help to let the City of Chicago know we would like the same.
We have nearly 1000 signatures! If you care about keeping the special character of Andersonville intact, please consider helping with the following:
1. Emailing the following letter to Mayor Lightfoot, Aldermen Osterman and Alderman Vasquez in support of an ordinance regulating the number of chains (a.k.a. formula businesses) in Andersonville.
2. Sharing the petition with all your neighbors and friends to keep the cause and momentum going.
(COPY AND PASTE THE TEXT BELOW, OR CONSTRUCT YOUR OWN EMAIL)
Please email local officials:
Honorable Lori E. Lightfoot, Mayor letterforthemayor@cityofchicago.org
Harry Osterman, Alderman (48th) harry@48thward.org
Andre Vasquez, Alderman (40th) info@40thward.org

Dear Mayor Lightfoot, Alderman Osterman, Alderman Vasquez, Commissioner Cox:
I am writing to show my support for creating an ordinance immediately that will regulate the number of chain or "formula"* stores within the Andersonville Commercial Historic District. I am one of 1000 signers of the petition who feel this is urgent, and strongly support the effort to stop chains from taking over Clark St. View petition here. https://www.change.org/stopchainsinandersonville
Numerous other cities have taken measures to protect their historic neighborhood districts from chain businesses, and I would like Chicago to do the same for Andersonville.
Please take immediate action by refusing all business licenses for Taco Bell and other chains until a Formula Business Ordinance or other solution is in place.
If something is not done soon, our existing local small businesses, the unique character and appeal of the Andersonville Commercial Historic District, and our community as a whole will deteriorate and possibly be lost.
I thank you for your careful consideration of this matter.
Sincerely,
*A "formula business" is defined here as a business with ten (10) or more substantially identical locations anywhere in the United States, regardless of the ownership of those businesses: including name, menu, ingredients, food preparation or presentation format; decor; employee uniforms; trademark; logo; symbol; architectural design; signage; color scheme; or any other standardized features.
