Online discounts company, Groupon, is being urged to stop profiting from the cruel dog-killing greyhound industry and scrap its greyhound racing offers.

Currently on its site, Groupon is encouraging people to attend tracks around the UK to “enjoy an evening of fast-paced canine action” https://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/swindon-greyhounds-gbgb-1

In an appeal to the company, ICABS stated: “The greyhound industry is inherently cruel, with much suffering and death. As highlighted by The Guardian in June, “almost 1,000 racing greyhounds died or were killed [in the UK] last year, according to industry figures, prompting animal welfare charities to renew calls for an end to the sport.”

The article added that “nearly 250 greyhounds were euthanised at the racetrack on ‘humane grounds’ last year, and scores died from ‘sudden death’, along with another 190 put to death because they were ‘unsuitable for homing’.”

Here in Ireland, 6,000 greyhounds are killed every year simply because they are not fast enough to win. We appeal to Groupon to show compassion and join the growing list of companies which have rejected greyhound racing, including Voucher Cloud, Thomas Cook/Jet Tours, Applegreen, Barry's Tea, FBD Insurance, Galway Crystal, Botanica International, Hyde Irish Whiskey, Tesco Ireland, Toyota Ireland, Permanent TSB, Boston Scientific, GE Healthcare, Treacy’s Hotel Waterford, Maldron Hotel Limerick, ULearn English Language School, etc
