Permanent TSB is being urged to disassociate from the cruel greyhound industry. One of the races scheduled to take place at Shelbourne Park on April 13 is "The Permanent TSB A2 525 Final". Dogs suffer and die at Shelbourne Park - in the past three years alone, 105 greyhounds have suffered injuries there and 24 have been killed. Permanent TSB has been associated with greyhound racing for at least the past decade. In 2008, its name was attached to a series of races at Limerick track (the worst in Ireland for greyhound deaths). In August 2016, "The Permanent TSB A3 525" took place at Mullingar track (the worst in Ireland for greyhound injuries) and last year, it sponsored another race at Shelbourne Park. In a message of appeal to Permanent TSB, ICABS highlighted Irish Greyhound Board figures showing that since 2015, over a thousand greyhounds have suffered injuries at tracks around Ireland and 385 were killed by track vets. Meanwhile, at least 2,649 greyhounds have been destroyed in Irish pounds in the past eight years. In addition, thousands of greyhounds go missing each year, presumed killed when found to be too slow. One Irish trainer remarked online: "I've seen dogs being shot. It has to be done as there's too many of them to rehome." A former chairman of the Irish Greyhound Board admitted on Cork's 96 FM that he believes it is "absolutely" okay for thousands of dogs to be killed and that racing couldn't exist without the destruction of dogs. No business should associate with an industry causing so much suffering and death. ACTION ALERT Join us in our appeal to Permanent TSB to stop supporting the cruel greyhound industry.
