We, the residents, taxpayers, and stakeholders of Brownsville and Cameron County, demand an immediate halt to the incorporation of “Starbase, TX” as an independent city. This is not a community-led initiative — it is a corporate takeover driven by SpaceX, using a manipulated voting base of its own employees. If allowed to proceed, this plan will undermine our democratic process, threaten our public resources, and increase costs for our citizens.

Why this matters:

SpaceX is attempting to transform Boca Chica into “Starbase, TX,” a city whose governance, zoning, and authority would be largely dictated by a single private corporation.

This is not just a name change. This is a hostile privatization of public space.

The recent vote to approve this incorporation is deeply questionable — with most participating voters being SpaceX employees. These individuals are not representative of the broader Cameron County community. This is not democracy. It’s corporate colonization.

If this goes unchecked:

• Public beaches and access to Boca Chica could be permanently restricted.
• Environmental regulations could be bypassed under local ordinances created by and for SpaceX.
• Local taxpayers could face new burdens if infrastructure costs spill over into county or state responsibilities.
• Future city planning and land use decisions could be made without input from Brownsville residents or Cameron County voters.

We call for:

1. A full investigation by the Texas Legislature into the legality and fairness of the incorporation process.
2. Immediate opposition from the Cameron County Commissioners Court.
3. A countywide referendum to determine whether incorporation should proceed, involving all affected residents — not just company-affiliated voters.
4. Full transparency and public hearings before any formal recognition of “Starbase, TX” as a city.

Conclusion:

Allowing a private corporation to carve out its own city is a direct threat to public governance, environmental integrity, and democratic rights. We cannot allow Brownsville’s future to be dictated by billionaire interests.
