Trucks need to be driving slow and cautiously as fast as the slow lane. Trucks in the fast lane are going too fast or too slow. If a car cuts off another car in the fast lane the car can avoid it but a big truck in the fast lane can’t stop the same. Cars run into slow trucks all the time and trucks run into disabled cars in the fast lane all the time. Crash reports from 2018 show 89% of all fatal big rig crashes are in the fast lane.
