Petition updateStop Russian Cyber War on Our CountryDonald Trump Elevating the Threat to the Mueller Investigation
Indivisible Northeast Mississippi
Nov 13, 2018

Unfortunately, our call for action in the petition “Stop Russian Cyber War against Our Country” delivered to our Mississippi Senators and House Representative in September has not led to concrete action from Congress.

The Presidential action to force Mr. Sessions’ resignation and to replace him with Mr. Whitaker represents a flagrant plan to interfere with the Mueller investigation. Mr. Whitaker has made it very clear that he is against the Mueller investigation and he will not recuse himself from the investigation. If the Acting Attorney General or a Senate-approved replacement takes action to undermine the Mueller investigation, we will be forced to conclude that Congressional Republicans are complicit participants in the President’s actions to obstruct justice.

Although the Russians interfered with our 2018 electoral process, we count ourselves very lucky that Putin’s acts were not as egregious as feared. However, it is still unconscionable that the Senate Majority Leader would not bring the “Secure Elections Act” to the Senate floor and it is sad that overt Republican-led voter suppression has replaced Russian interference as the disgraceful story of the 2018 election.

In face of these attacks to our democratic rule of law, we again implore the Mississippi Congressional delegation to fulfill their sworn duty to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic.”
