Sooke Budget Bombshell: Tax Scenarios Range From 10.23% to 18.51%

Hi everyone, quick update, and a big thank you. 💛
First, thank you to the 830 people who’ve signed the petition so far. Your support matters, and it’s being noticed.
New info shared by SookeTown from Facebook: Council is expected to review 2026 budget scenarios next week, and the current draft points to a potential municipal tax lift ranging from ~10.23% to ~18.51%, depending on decisions around discretionary items and new funding requests. SookeTown also noted staff are flagging that RCMP cost pressures (reported as ~7.90%) could make up a big portion of the increase, and that new growth isn’t fully covering added operating costs.
If another double-digit increase lands, a lot of households, including many who never comment publicly, are going to feel it.
🙏 Please help us urgently build momentum:
✅ Share the petition today (a quick share helps more than you think)
✅ Ask 1–2 friends or neighbours to sign
We respect how difficult Council and the Mayor’s job is, this isn’t personal, it’s about the tax burden and as residents, we all need to step up now: share our input clearly, stay engaged, and help shape the decisions that affect our households.
Thank you again for standing up for a fair, sustainable pace for Sooke.
