HUD has classified our repairs as emergency work because of the existing hazardous conditions that threaten the health and safety of residents at Florence Janss Apartments, which is a senior and disabled apartment complex.

Our state and federal tenant organizing protections are seriously being challenged right now in Ventura County by The Area Housing Authority of the County of Ventura, which seriously undermines tenant rights for some of the most vulnerable people in our community that are disabled seniors.

The Housing Authority has still not accepted the 5 tenant advocates rent for three months, so they still face the threat of eviction for advocating for disabled and senior's rights to live in a safe habitable home.

The Housing Authority had to reach out to HUD to help cover the cost of the repairs, because supposedly they do not have enough money to cover the repairs. But, they have money to cover the cost to evict 5 tenants advocates for advocating for a healthy safe place to live and to be treated with basic respect and dignity.
