On Wednesday 27th May 2026 Jules Pipe, the Deputy Mayor presided over a hearing in his Glass Palace at City Hall next door to Canary Wharf. Despite the combined efforts of the Our North Finchley campaign, Save Our Newts and all the Ecological organisations he ruled the overall the development should go ahead. 

This means that Regal/Arada are now free to demolish the widely popular and much used Hollywood Bowling, Vue Cinema and various Restaurants at the Great North Leisure Park, they will be replaced with a massively dense development of 1485 flats of which 75% are deemed unaffordable (being the opposite of affordable). This development has little outdoor space for the residents to enjoy and as you are probably aware terrible public transport links and nothing much in the way of local shops or restaurants. 

For some reason the developers haven't included any shops or other facilities in their proposal apart from a replacement Leisure Centre which is similar to the existing, but lacking the family wave pool. What will happen as regards health and other facilities for these 4000 new residents remains to be seen, it will definitely add the the strain on the already over stretched Doctors, Dentists and schools. 

They also boasted that they will be opening up access to the Glebelands Nature Reserve which is currently protected from too many visitors by the fence around GNLP. The effects of 4000 new residents tramping through the Nature Reserve is expected to have a catastrophic effect on the wildlife currently thriving there, including London's largest known colony of the endangered species of Great Crested Newts.
