A downtown DASH bus operated by the city of Los Angeles hit and killed a pedestrian Wednesday morning, according to Det. Josephine Mapson of the Los Angeles Police Department. The accident received little media attention although it happened in the heart the city.
Few details are known at this time, according to police, who are still investigating. The accident occurred at the intersection of 5th and Flower streets at 6:35 a.m. The bus apparently was making a left turn from westbound 5th to southbound Flower when it hit the victim, who was in a crosswalk. The victim was identified as 58-year-old Gwendolyn Coleman of Burbank.
UPDATE, 2:45 p.m.: The driver of the bus has been placed on suspension until an investigation of the incident is complete, said Nicole Jones, a spokesperson for First Transit, the Cincinnati-based firm that operates DASH buses under contract to the city of Los Angeles.
