Seven people suffered minor injuries and several cars were damaged when a bus crashed into a Jersey City auto dealership this morning, officials said.
An NJ Transit Route 1 bus taking 12 passengers on their morning commute from Newark to Journal Square in Jersey City got into an accident shortly before 8 a.m., NJ Transit spokeswoman Jennifer Nelson said.
Jersey City public safety spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill says the bus hit one moving vehicle, while driving eastbound on Communipaw Avenue between Route 440 and Mallory Avenue. The bus then jumped the curb before striking several parked cars at a Hudson Subaru dealership.
Four Jersey City Medical Center ambulances arrived at the scene and seven of the passengers -- three men and four women -- were taken to the JCMC and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, hospital spokesman Mark Rabson said.
Nelson noted that no one outside the bus was injured in the incident.
A light pole was also damaged, reported Journal photographer Reena Rose Sibayan, who was at the scene around 9 a.m. Sibayan adds that the bus' windshield was cracked.
At least four dealership cars were struck. As of 9:36 a.m., three of the damaged vehicles were still at the scene, along with the bus, which was waiting to be towed away.
