Lets stop the Double-dip!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for continuing to share this petition, it really is making a difference.

Since Victoria broke it's news last week of a 7.5% levy on all private home short term rental accommodation bookings (PHoSTRA) NSW and QLD have put such a levy on their budgetry horizons.  City of Melbourne have announced as well a $350 fee and a 180 night cap on PHoSTRA.

But what we have in Queensland, slipping under the radar, because it is 'just' local government gouging, is a tripling of rates and a circa $5,000 per room application fee from Sunshine Coast Council (above photo from their fee guidance advice). So (roughly) a three bed house will need to front up $15,000 plus 'advice' fees from Council $595 plus a rate typically going from about $3,000 a year to $9,000 a year. WOW! They know how to gouge!  And SCC think this is going to be good for tourism? And Noosa Shire and the Gold Coast Councils are just as bad.

We have to steel ourselves to the very likely chance that the States will intervene. Why wouldn't they?  They see some money in the housing sector, they have a housing crisis, er... despite there is ample evidence of short term tourist rentals having no effect on the long term residential market, they'll still go for it and the media will swallow it.  But what we have to stop is this double-dip rorting by the Councils.  That is what I have asked the Minister for Local Government, Dr Steven Miles to do. Stop these Councils abusing their powers of taxation.

Your signature helps stop this outrageous double dip, please keep sharing!

Thanks heaps and respect to all

Pip
