Petition updateStop Punishing CTA Workers For Getting Sick! The "Sick Book" is NOT Paid Sick Leave!

The union presidents and lawyers who claim that me and my fellow Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) workers in the unions have paid leave are liars.

The CTA proves my allegation through their own Administrative Procedures (AP) 1009 and 1010.

These two documents outline the benefits for workers who suffer sickness or injuries that are not work-related. One need not look any further than the subtitles for each procedure.

Short-Term Disability is NOT paid sick leave as identified in Chicago Municipal Code 6-130, Cook County Paid Leave Ordinance, Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers or any other decent large company.

At the CTA we know Short-Term Disability from its synonyms in our Contract as "The Sick Book" and "Seven Day Sick Pay." Instead of paying for it as a benefit, we receive it through our Contract. It is intended for extreme illness and injuries. The pay is a fraction of our total weekly wages (after the first week). We are also punished for it—whether we get paid or not!

Help me fight for paid sick leave for all CTA workers (with no concessions). Sign and share this petition today.
