I just want to provide an update to everyone. So the hearing was on Monday for public input. It did not go in our favor. David Watkins spoke out against the matter, but no one else was present to speak out against it. We discovered that it will be a 260 foot T mobile service tower built just feet away from the house on the end of Watkins Road.
We have spoken to some individuals that have gone through this very same process with trying to block cell tower placement in their neighborhoods. They warned us that no matter their input at the meetings, they proceeded to place the tower anyways. That same individual then told us that people in the neighborhood began to get cancer and neighbors began to get ill. We are asking her if she will be a witness for us at the hearing.
Would anyone else be willing to speak at the next hearing on October the 14th? If so, please reach out. You can reach out to my dad, David Watkins, at 229-251-0503. Or reach out to me by email at mlwatkins@valdosta.edu.
If we want to fight this, we will have to organize. Large corporations often take advantage of rural citizens, knowing that smaller communities like ours have fewer resources to challenge them. We know that Rocky Ford is mostly miles of trees and empty land, so why are they trying to put this in the small area where people actually reside? Please consider speaking up at the meeting on October 14th at 5:30. Thank you.
