Thank you to all of our supporters so far!

A respected University college has responsibilities within the planning process to act in the public interest, but the proposed development and repeat approaches to the Planning Department with amendment after amendment is purely for private, commercial interest with their own needs in mind.

The College has the option to sell one of the properties in question and buy 4 suitable properties with gardens for the couples with children that their planning application suggests are key requirements they cannot otherwise meet. Releasing such housing stock at the top end of the market enables new owners to move up, freeing up smaller, more affordable properties to meet the needs of others in the wider city. To not do so, is contrary to planning policies and public interest.

We Made the News!

Our cause has been picked up by the Cambridge Independent. The news article published today (March 30th) incorrectly states the College has 'held consultations' which is untrue. The Residents Association made a Petition for a Development Control Forum, which brought the College to a meeting with Planning Officers, City Councillors and Residents in light of the high number of objections and concerns. We proposed compromises, in the spirit of collaboration, and these were rejected by the College who brought no suggestions to the meeting.

Next Steps

We will continue to bring updates of key developments. Please help us and share the Petition to those also concerned with:

  • Conservation Area management where historical features & assets are protected in law but are so often at risk of poor development proposals
  • The role of cities and inner city gardens & trees to mitigate the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution

Thank you!
