Good morning everyone.
On Monday the 27th the community filled every seat and spilled out into the hall of Town Hall. Thank you for coming out and we request you all come back on Tuesday, July 12th when the Council is expected to vote on this rezoning request. Bring a friend!
How it went
Mayor Sharpe and the town staff ran a very fair meeting. I want to express our gratitude for that. I also want to express my gratitude to the community for being civil, professional, and courteous. This is how we get things done!
Everyone learned that 3 minutes is not a lot of time! We had a lot to express and were allowed to do so through a series of speakers.
We were pleased to see the council listen intently to our concerns and ask very salient questions of the developers.
On the whole, we feel like we did the best we could given the time we had.
What happens next?
The town council is going to vote on Tuesday, July 12th. Our request to extend the time on this was not persuasive enough. In fairness to the council's decision on that, by pushing the decision back, the facts and presentations will fall further into memory. That is a reasonable point.
It simply means that we, as a community, will need to work hard for the next week and a half.
What can you do?
Right now the biggest thing you can do to help is get the word out. The Town of Elon is about 12,000 people. We have not reached a point where a large percentage of citizens are aware that this is happening. Their views need to be heard and we cannot reach them alone.
This is the hard part. The part where we ask each of you to go beyond signing and expressing your opinion. We need volunteers to get the word out. We need you to tell your neighbors. We need you to post to all of your social media. We need to post our information in the businesses that will allow it.

We need to flood Town Hall with questions and concerns from citizens, business owners, students, and the people that work in our town that aren't just us.
Those few of us working on this cannot do it alone. We simply do not have enough boots on the ground and hours in the day.
