A Dam(n) Update!! Pacificorp is seeking water right permits to pursue the hydro storage dam in a few years.
When we learned that Pacificorp paused its initial application for the 2025 dam project for at least 3 years, we sensed that the Bear River had won a small battle in what may be a long war.
Well, we were right. It was recently revealed that Pacificorp is quietly seeking to reclassify existing water rights for the dam storage use as well as transfer new water rights to tap into the Bear.
As it currently stands, THEY DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH water rights or the correct type to pursue the dam. This current permit approval they are now seeking is a required step. And guess what, we have until MAY 6th to speak up!!
This may actually be the most transparent, direct, and important action we can all take to ensure they do not revisit the dam that the people have already stopped.
Take 5 minutes to send an email to the Idaho Department of Water Resources file@idwr.idaho.gov with your protest of permit no. 13-8201 & 88867
Click the link in our profile or visit https://www.oneidanarrows.org/waterrightsprotest for complete steps on stopping this transfer.
We’ve said it before and we will say it again, now more than ever before, every single drop of the Bear needs to make its final destination -
THE DRYING, SHRINKING, MAJESTIC GREAT SALT LAKE.
Friends, LETS GET TO WORK! Send that email by Monday, May 6th!
