A Win for Accountability – And a Step Forward for the Petition

We’re encouraged to share a positive development in our ongoing fight for consumer protection: a full refund has been issued following one of the complaints highlighted in this campaign.

The refund came only after persistent follow-up and formal processes. Initially, the company involved denied any wrongdoing, justifying the charge through fine print and subscription terms. This situation underscores the difficulty everyday consumers face when trying to reclaim their money—especially when dealing with international platforms and vague billing practices.

This win also brought to light a major player behind the scenes: Paymentology, a global payment processing partner working with telecom companies like Safaricom. Their role in facilitating the refund has made it clear that such companies are key decision-makers in how digital transactions—and chargebacks—are handled.

We are also still awaiting the final report from the Competition Authority of Kenya, whose involvement is vital in setting long-term standards and holding platforms accountable.

Let’s keep going. This refund is not the end—it’s a sign that change is possible. Please continue sharing this petition so we can reach more people, demand better protections, and hold all responsible entities to account.

Together, we can stop online scams in Kenya.
