...so let's make it a national place of pilgrimage!
I'm currently looking into reconnecting with other cities Norwich had ancient and crucial trade links with.
Northwich for salt, Hull for fish, Newcastle and the Tynemouth area for coal, Yorkshire and Nantwich for textiles, Stoke-on-Trent and the Midlands for metal and pottery. .. everywhere really!
The Hanseatic League: Norwich housed a Hanseatic warehouse and had direct links to Scandinavia.
Caen in France: Following the Norman conquest, massive amounts of stone were imported from Caen to build Norwich Cathedral.
English merchants from Norwich were active in trading wool for exotic goods like wine from Gascony and soap from Castile.
Today we must revive that spirit through motorcycle tourism. Our 88-year old bike park is a national landmark, recently highlighted by MCN, that draws visitors from across the UK into the heart of our city's. By protecting this historic facility, we aren't just saving a patch of tarmac - we're making Norwich a premier destination that pumps 'biker pounds' into our local economy.
In return, I encourage our community to ride out and support struggling heritage bike parks across the country.
Rye and Gt Yarmouth are just two I know of that are struggling at the moment. If you know of others, please comment 🙏
