Hello Everyone,

It has been some time since we gave this wonderful community an update on what is going on with the New Mexico bill, and we wanted to let you know about some recent developments.

Unfortunately, while the campaign to pass this bill in New Mexico started out smoothly, it has run into some major obstacles. 

Ultimately, the decision was made to table this bill until next year’s legislative session, meaning it will not go through this year and will instead be re-introduced in 2024. We want you to know that this decision was made without the input of the At Your Cervix team, and had we been involved in those conversations we would have advocated against it. We firmly believe that the people of New Mexico are entitled to safe and dignified healthcare and that delaying this bill delays that access.

Even though we are disappointed that the bill has been delayed, we are going to treat this as an opportunity - an opportunity to be actively involved in the drafting process for next year’s bill, to continue to raise robust support ahead of next year’s legislative session, and to work in coalition with other stakeholders - including all of you - to ensure a strong bill is drafted and passed in 2024. 

We will continue to provide you with updates as they become available. In the meantime, if you live in New Mexico we encourage you to write and call your state senators and representatives to urge them to co-sponsor this bill when it is re-introduced in 2024.
