Hello,
You are receiving this as you helped before and now; we are hoping you'll help again. Unfortunately, not much has changed and we are now seeking legal action.
Montgomery County Maryland residents, homeowners, and concerned community members living near the Montgomery County Airpark (KGAI) in Gaithersburg, Maryland have endured escalating noise pollution, safety risks, and quality-of-life impacts from the Airpark’s operations — while the Montgomery County Revenue Authority (MCRA), which owns and oversees the facility, has repeatedly failed to provide meaningful oversight, enforcement, or accountability.
Recent reports from the Airpark Community Advisory Committee (ACAC) confirm what we’ve experienced firsthand:
• 678 noise complaints in FY25 alone, primarily from low-flying flight school aircraft operating directly over densely populated residential neighborhoods like Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village.
• Chronic violations of the voluntary “Fly Friendly” noise abatement procedures, with MCRA exerting “limited effort” to enforce compliance from lessees and flight schools.
• Unresolved building and fire code violations, deteriorating infrastructure (leaking hangars, gravel floors, no permits for major work), and safety concerns from unsafe operations.
• Long-term leases that have led to a loss of operational control, with MCRA showing insufficient investment and oversight compared to its management of other county assets.
The ACAC’s FY25 Annual Report and county work sessions have highlighted “limited oversight,” “underperforming economic impact,” and “significant County risk” due to MCRA’s approach. Residents have attended public meetings, submitted complaints, and urged action — yet the problems continue to worsen. Flight schools dominate operations, generating the most complaints while contributing the least economic benefit to the broader community.
We’ve exhausted reasonable channels. Now we must turn to legal action to force real accountability. To this end we created a GoFundMe account. The funds will help us launch a targeted legal campaign to hold the Montgomery County Revenue Authority responsible for its failures as the Airpark’s owner and operator.
How the Funds Will Be Used (Fully Transparent Breakdown):
• Legal fees and retainers for experienced environmental/land-use attorneys to file suit(s) seeking enforcement of leases, noise abatement, safety standards, and code compliance.
• Expert witnesses, noise studies, environmental assessments, and technical reports needed to build a strong case.
• Filing fees, court costs, public records requests (FOIA/Maryland Public Information Act), and administrative expenses.
• Community outreach, translation services for bilingual families affected by noise, and updates to keep supporters informed.
This is not about shutting down the Airpark — it’s about demanding basic accountability, safety, and respect for the thousands of families who live here. The MCRA has a duty to manage this public asset responsibly. With your help, we can make that happen through the courts.
Every donation matters — whether $5, $25, or more. Share this campaign with neighbors, local groups, and anyone who believes public authorities must answer to the people they serve.
