Stop New Mexico SB 111 and House Bill 4

Stop New Mexico SB 111 and House Bill 4
The Issue
The New Mexico Sixty Day Session just started with with a bang. Legislators have met in the House and the Senate to take the monies that are allocated to your Fire and Police Department's. Senate Bill 111 and House Bill 4 have both been presented and passed the House Appropriations and Finance Committee (HAFC) and the Senate Finance Committee. (SFC). Legislators are after 75 million dollars this year and 21.4 million next year. This money is currently in Funds for Fire and Police Departments. Legislators called this bill "Unopposed". Not a single Fire Department in the State of New Mexico will be able to apply for the New Mexico State Fire Protection Grant for the next two years because the New Mexico State Fire Protection Fund won't exist. Legislators are attacking the Law Enforcement Protection Fund by taking 5.5 million from it. The decrease of funds will disable our public safety departments and pose future life safety risks. How does this affect our departments? Smaller departments will be affected the most! No longer will funds be given out for a Budget, but will be given out "periodically" over the year. This can cause the inability to purchase much needed equipment to help keep you safe! Help us send a message to New Mexico Legislators and Governor Martinez. Don't take Public Safety Money!
