Get reminders near your broadband renewal date to reduce your bills
Hi everyone,
I want to start by thanking the 40,000+ people that have signed this petition in the last two weeks and by introducing myself, I'm Richard Winstone (pic above is me), I started this petition after having the success of my petition against Ofgem, where we have 350,000 signatures and now engage with Ofgem multiple times each month on different issues relating to the price cap (link: https://www.change.org/OfgemPriceCap
Update
For those of you who don't know, Ofcom have been consulting internally on a change to the way suppliers can just implement mid-contract price rises. This work has been ongoing for a few months and is supposed to have a published decision this month. I've been in contact with Ofcom this week and can confirm they are still planning to post that decision this month which is great, but they refused to give me a specific date, so keep an eye on your emails because I'll be posting an update here when it has been released.
If you want to learn more about their consultation you can read their statement on the Ofcom website here: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/news-centre/2023/review-of-inflation-linked-telecoms-price-rises
Save money on your broadband
I do this work on petitioning regulators as part of my full-time job running over50smoney.com. I look to save the over-50s community money on their bills and help inform them of financial decisions and options available to them, but that doesn't mean my website can't help people under 50 as well so I post on the petitions with any ways in which I can help.
In terms of your broadband bills, the easiest way to save is to shop around, use a price comparison tool and find the cheapest deal available to you. I've included a link at the top of this update to our price comparison tool, anyone of any age can use this to find a better deal.
We also offer a reminder service and, because broadband isn't an age specific product, we offer the reminder service to everyone so please feel free to sign up. We keep it easy, we only ask for your email address to send the reminders to and the date of your renewal so we know when to send them. And your email address is only used for the purpose of reminding you to switch and save money on your broadband. To join this service, click the link at the top of this update.
I'll be back in a couple of weeks
Hopefully, the Ofcom announcement is soon, I'll post another update then with details of our next steps if they are needed. Hopefully, Ofcom just decide to ban this practice and we can celebrate a victory before Christmas!
Thanks everyone,
Richard Winstone
