We hit 1,000 signatures! Here is what we are doing next (and how you can help)

To our 1,000+ neighbours and allies,
First, thank you. Because of you, we’ve officially crossed 1,000 signatures to protect Queen & Broadview from corporate extraction and demand a say in the future of our neighbourhood.
When we started this, we were just a group of residents who refused to sit back and watch a historic corner be quietly handed over to a global fast-food chain without a fight. You proved that we are not alone.
Here is what we are doing with your signatures right now:
• Submitting to City Hall: We are preparing to formally submit this petition to the City Clerk to get it on the council agenda once elections have concluded. This is based on legal advice WW obtained and consultation with the City.
• Pushing for Heritage Designation: We have requested that Heritage Planning assess the site and the surrounding area under an urgent review process to protect its historic character.
• Demanding Zoning Amendments: We are calling on the City to implement zoning amendments that require mandatory community consultation when historic spots are targeted by large chains.
But we are not done yet.
To the folks at City Hall, 1,000 names is a great start but we need to make it a roar they cannot ignore. We need to turn this petition into a mandate.
Here is how you can help us keep the momentum going:
1. Share the petition: Send the link to your group chats, your building's Facebook group, and your family. We need to get to 2,000 or more.
2. Talk to your neighbours: If you live near the corner, knock on a few doors. Ask them to sign.
3. Tell your favourite local spots: Next time you grab a coffee or a bite at a local Riverside or Leslieville business, tell them about the petition. Let them know we are fighting for them.
We are not against change. We are against decisions made without us. We believe in affordable housing, local businesses, and a city that protects its history.
Thank you for standing with us. Let's keep going.
Sign the petition. Share the petition. Keep Queen & Broadview local.
In solidarity,
Riverside Community Group
