#NoToxicPort#NoToxicPort campaign goes from strength to strength

Over the past few weeks the campaign has been all over the national and the local news.
Local campaigners were interviewed on BBC’s London Lunch Time with the programme shown several times during the day (1).
Laura Eyres was interviewed by Petrie Hosken on London Radio Early Breakfast (2).
And the local press - News Shopper (3) and The Mercury and South London Press(4), - have done a brilliant job reporting the latest developments.
Meanwhile MPs, Jim Fitzpatrick and Matthew Pennycook, have spearheaded the campaign since day one.
Jim represented us before the Parliamentary Select Committee, and Matthew recently has renewed his objections in the press.
Mathew said: “I’ve been fighting since day one, alongside local community groups, for a clean, green Enderby Wharf cruise liner terminal – one that meets the highest, not just the most basic, environmental and air quality standards.
“The terminal as planned is simply not tenable. The case for shore-to-ship power, or other enhanced mitigation measures to protect local air quality, must be re-examined."
However, members of the Labour party are by no means the only politicians to step into the fray.
The Greens have fought cruise plans over the past four years, giving us their support at the High Court when we tried to get revised plans for the toxic terminal overturned.
The Women’s Equality Party have been vocal in their support, as have Peninsular ward councillors, the Lib Dems and the MRLP.
Meanwhile the Conservatives (5) renewed their opposition to the terminal last week when Councillor Geoff Brighty, Conservative councillor for Blackheath Westcombe ward, said: “Sadly, the current plans were voted through by Labour councillors on the Planning Board – including the Leader and Deputy Leader of the Council – despite objections from me and others.
“I have long been opposed to the current plan with no on-shore power, and would like to congratulate local residents for running such a strong campaign against it. This is an argument that, I believe, Labour councillors can no longer ignore.”
Even members of the Greenwich council cabinet have voiced their condemnation of plans for the port without access to an onshore power supply.
Clearly the tide is turning rapidly with various politicians and councillors promising their support on twitter almost every day. For more information please read this blog:

If you’re on twitter, follow @NoToxicPort for the very latest updates, and check out the new website here: https://www.notoxiccruiseport.london/ for news and updates.
Campaign leader, Laura Eyres, says: “We’re delighted local people and parties are united behind our campaign for a clean cruise port. Only the leadership of Greenwich is refusing to budge. What we need to see it a real change after the elections after the elections, with commitments and support turning into an action plan the community can get behind and welcome.”
SO WHAT’S NEXT?
Come along to the hustings at Christ Church, SE10 on 24th April for 7.45pm. The event will be hosted by the Rev. Margaret Cave and Ian Blore from EGRA (the East Greenwich Residents Association). Interested politicians and councillors have all been invited.
We look forward to seeing you there.
