There is a political will to tackle pollution, but so far all the rhetoric is about traffic on the roads. Cruise liners are far more toxic. The Greater London Authority's air quality experts confirm that a moored cruise ship generating its own power from a 3.5MW engine is like having 688 HGVs with their engines idling in your back garden. And as some cruise ship generate three times the emissions; we could easily be looking at the equivalent of 2000 HGVs. And remember, ships on the Thames burn diesel with 100 times the amount of sulphur than in road diesel. So please write now, or come to the meeting.
