Did NATO S.G. Mark Rutte deliberately lie about Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during the hearing in the European Parliament? (13 Jan. 2025)
Today Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is touring European leaders. She met Chancellor Scholz in Berlin this morning; later she will travel to meet French President Macron and NATO chief Mark Rutte in Brussels. Greenland is high on the agenda at all these meetings. Last weekend, Trump reportedly threatened the Danes with import duties in an 'aggressive' telephone conversation with Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen if they did not change their minds.
NATO does not issue any report on the meeting between NATO S.G. Mark Rutte and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Why?!
During the EU Parliamentary hearing Mark Rutte fully supported Donald Trump and he downplayed what Mette Frederiksen allegedly said. Was he lying?:
"Uhmm Then on ehm Trump, yes. He has been right, many times. Ehhhm I agree! Ehmm and he ehh he might be right many times in the future. And we have to diaolgue with him. And I like te reaction of Mette Frederiksen, the prime minister of Denmark, who did not immediately react to what he said about Greenland, but she brought it back to the issue which is at stake. Which is the Arctic. And how to make sure that in the Arctic we have a strategic issue to be discussed between NATO, the US ...within NATO and the E.U. how to deal with the Arctic etcetera. And this is not about who rules or controls Greenland, this is of course about making sure the Arctic stays sane" (he means 'safe'?!)
