It has been a while since we provided an update but so much has been happening behind the scenes. We are changing our name to better reflect our goal of quieting loud vehicles.
Welcome to A Quieter Healthier Georgia, Inc. You will see a couple of different but very similar logos as we try out different ones. We are a 501(c)(3) not for profit so all your donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
RIGHT NOW we need your help – in the last legislative session a study committee was approved. This is a chance to educate these legislative committee members about the problem. August 20 from 1:00-3:00 in Jefferson, GA. I know it is not the most convenient place, only about an hour north of Atlanta.
We need letters or write-ups from law enforcement, medical professionals, patients, citizens, business owners, etc. We need these from retirement or assisted living homes, letters from business owners such as hotels explaining how these modified mufflers impact their guests. Physicians and patients would be especially helpful. I will be printing out all the comments included here on the petition so feel free to add your thoughts there.
While the meeting is only 2 hours. We will have their dedicated attention. We can provide them with information prior to the meeting. Anything you might think would sway them send it along.
For anyone willing, we would love to have you attend the meeting. It is at the Jackson EMC headquarters in Jefferson GA (850 Commerce Rd, Bldg 1000, Jefferson GA 30549). We could use all the support we can get so we would love to have you there.
This is a great opportunity to educate Georgia lawmakers on the issue. The impact on public health such as high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders, etc. Loud noise can be a trigger for those with PTSD or sensory disorders patients. It can cause them to hurt themselves or others. And let’s not forget our children – impact on their learning. We have research on this showing how this reduces their ability to learn. Not to mention quality of life.
Noise pollution is second only to air pollution as impact on public health.
Legislators will use this information (and anything else we can find) to draft legislation to allow jurisdictions such as municipalities to adopt legislation with state backing. We don’t want to require jurisdictions to ha to adopt this legislation as some small communities will not want to. But many do – so let’s help them.
