The Issue

Most mornings, as I walk to work, I witness a troubling practice by some landscape gardeners. While they dutifully cut the grass, I've noticed that some of them use leaf blowers to carelessly blow leaves and debris from gardens straight onto public highways and paths frequented by the public. This practice is not only unsightly but poses significant problems.

By blowing leaves and debris onto the roads, these actions contribute to clogged road gullies. These blocked gullies then prevent proper drainage during rainfall, leading to localized flooding issues. Flooded roads are a hazard to both pedestrians and vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents and damage to property.

The solution is both simple and effective: landscape gardeners should be required to collect and dispose of leaves and debris responsibly without ejecting them onto public spaces. This change would not only maintain cleaner public spaces but also mitigate the risk of road drainage problems and the resultant flooding.

I urge local authorities and landscape gardening businesses to enforce and adhere to responsible debris disposal practices. By implementing stricter regulations or guidelines on garden maintenance, we can ensure cleaner, safer roads and sidewalks for everyone. Let's keep our public spaces pristine and functional.

Join me in calling for change by signing this petition. Together, we can create a safer and more environmentally responsible community.
