The British people have spoken and our Government is changing. Congratulations to the Labour Party for their historic victory.
With the election behind us, we will continue to highlight the harm that school fee VAT could cause many children and their families. We cannot improve education by forcing children out of their schools. There are better ways.
We hold out hope that reason and evidence will prevail. To that end, we urge the new Labour Government to undertake a detailed and dynamic impact assessment and evaluation before implementing this policy, including a review by the Office of Budget Responsibility. We also urge Labour leaders to meet with parents like us who pay the fees that Labour will tax, and meet with schools themselves to see the work so many already do in their communities.
Summer holidays are here for many of us, but there is much more to do. Here’s how you can help:
- Share your stories, especially if you’ve already decided to move your child out of their independent school. We regularly receive requests for stories and this will continue over the coming weeks, and sharing your story will help others understand the damage this policy could cause. If this is you, please let us know by contacting us here: https://educationnottaxation.org/contact-us/
- Continue to share our petition and get your voices heard. It matters now more than ever. We plan to submit this petition in September, when the summer recess ends at Parliament. Keep an eye out.
- Write your new MP and share your concerns. The new Parliament will officially open on Wednesday 17 July, and you’ll be able to find contact details for your MP on parliament.uk.
- Join our Facebook Group (now with over 9,000 members!) if you’re the parent of an independent school child.
As always, keep an eye out for further updates as the new Government takes shape. More news coming soon!
Thank you for your support!
