Stop Interrupting Quran Recitation with Advertisements
Stop Interrupting Quran Recitation with Advertisements
The Issue
To: Google and Alphabet Inc.
We, the undersigned, respectfully call on Google to introduce an advertisement-free listening experience for Quran recitation across its platforms and services.
The Quran is the sacred scripture of more than two billion Muslims around the world. For millions of people, listening to its recitation is an act of worship, reflection, prayer, and spiritual devotion.
We therefore believe that inserting commercial advertisements in the middle of Quran recitation can be deeply disruptive and distressing to listeners, particularly when the recitation is being used for worship, prayer, reflection, or memorisation.
Our request is simple:
Please provide an option to listen to Quran recitations without commercial advertisements or interruptions.
We are not asking Google to remove advertising from its platforms generally, nor are we asking for special treatment of any commercial service.
We are asking for a respectful, practical and accessible option that would allow users to identify Quranic content and listen to it without advertising interruptions.
Google already has the technological capability to provide users with different experiences based on the nature of content and user preferences. We respectfully ask the company to consider implementing a dedicated “Ad-Free Quran Listening” option across relevant Google services.
This would be a meaningful gesture of respect toward Muslims worldwide and toward the religious and cultural diversity of Google's global user community.
We respectfully ask Google and Alphabet to:
Stop commercial advertisements from interrupting Quran recitations wherever technically feasible.
Introduce an optional ad-free mode specifically for Quranic recitation.
Apply this option consistently across relevant Google platforms and services.
Consult with Muslim scholars, users and relevant communities when designing such a feature.
Recognise that religious content can have a fundamentally different significance for users than ordinary entertainment or commercial content.
We believe that technology should serve people while respecting their beliefs, traditions and moments of worship.
We invite Muslims and people of all faiths and backgrounds who support respectful digital spaces to sign and share this petition.
Respect religious devotion.
Let the Quran be heard without interruption.
