Thank you to all who have signed this petition to show your support. Over the past three days, we have been speaking directly with cyclists on Hutchinson Island and sharing this petition to increase awareness. We ask that you continue to spread the word about this petition, and share it with those who have a vested interest in the safety of our local cycling population.

We have reached out to the Venture Cycling Association regarding their Solutions for Making Rumble Strips Safer for Cyclists: https://www.adventurecycling.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/2021-rumble-strip-wp_rnd1_v01.pdf Our goal is to assess the viability of this document, and subsequently, its applicability to Hutchinson Island.
Week of 13 – 18 January 2025
Contact will be made (emails and phone calls) to the local DOT key stakeholders overseeing the rumble strip project to request a virtual public meeting and/or one-on-one discussions with local cyclists. Our goal is to highlight the dangers of these rumble strips directly with DOT representatives, and discuss immediate (and future) actions that can be taken to reduce the risks to cyclists along the affected corridor on Hutchinson Island.
Contact will also be made to the Federal Highway Administration regarding the Rumble Strip and Bicycle Accommodation Program (https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/roadway_dept/pavement/rumble_strips/bike_fs/ to discuss public outreach methods for large-scale construction projects that impact bike lanes, and effective communications between the local government and cycling populations.
Again, we thank you for your support.
