We are local businesses that have been a real cornerstone of our community for many years. Recently, we discovered a worrying change that is about to impact all our local, family run businesses and our neighbourhood residents. The City of York Council has plans to impose double yellow lines across Osbaldwick without any prior consultation with us, the people most affected by these changes. 

Double yellow lines will restrict parking significantly, creating a ripple effect that could drive away customers who rely on convenient access to our local businesses. Moreover, residents will lose access to vital parking spaces needed for their daily lives. The local businesses that have served and sustained the community for years should not have to suffer due to changes enforced without any dialogue or consideration.

Evidence from similar situations show adverse impacts when such measures are implemented without proper consultation. Local commerce suffers, customer footfall drops drastically, and the unintended consequence often leads to businesses shutting down. Our local economy depends on the accessibility and convenience that parking provides, and taking this away would be undermining our community's strength and resilience.

We urge the Council to reassess their decision and instigate a dialogue with local businesses and residents. Adding double yellow lines may seem to be a logical traffic solution, but the implications are far reaching. There are alternative measures to consider to better manage the traffic and the bus route without jeopardising local businesses and parking for residents.
