Rideshare Drivers Unite in Colorado

Rideshare and delivery drivers in Colorado, and across the nation, are nearing a breaking point due to low wages, lack of transparency and companies taking more of their share. Drivers are protesting and demanding better pay and greater autonomy over their work and data. In November, Rep. Stephanie Vigil–a ride-share driver, (and member of the Drivers' Rights Movement!), was elected to the state legislature, and she is hoping to change the conversation about how these tech companies are regulated. Drivers claim that companies are now taking up to 50% of the cost of a ride, leaving little for them, while the companies dispute this saying most drivers make far more than one-third of minimum wage.  Read more here.

Rep. Vigil also penned a powerful Op-Ed that just published in Fortune Magazine, giving her first-person account of the struggles gig workers face daily, and educating delivery customers on the games platforms play with their tips.

Survey Says... Let's Take Our Work To State Legislators

Several weeks ago, we issued a survey via email and across our social media groups. Our findings reaffirm our users and supporters overwhelmingly demand transparency across all platforms and applications. Drivers should have the right to know the full compensation they will receive for a job, as well as the time, location, and travel distance required. This vital information is essential in enabling workers to make informed decisions about whether or not to accept a job opportunity and provide certainty for compensation. In addition, our results also indicate the importance of the right to data and privacy protections for gig workers. Works should have easy access to their work profiles and earnings history and to control who has access to their data.

Over the next several months, we’ll be reaching out to state legislators to take actions to ensure gig-workers are protected and granted the necessary information to make informed decisions. Together, we can create a gig economy that is fair and equitable for all.
