It has been a while since I updated the petition and I was excited to see that we are nearly at 25,000 signatures! After being ignored by the pollies last year in our bid to freeze indexation, I was a bit deflated. But this year, we will start the push earlier, to give them a chance to DO THE RIGHT THING, and freeze indexation in 2024.
I was hopeful to see that the scandalous practice of applying indexation BEFORE the annual garnished funds are applied to the debt has been exposed recently by media outlets. This is promising. But it doesn't address the real issue- Indexation is hurting young Australians, adding to their anxiety, destroying their hopes of home ownership, and increasing the financial vulnerabilty of at-risk women. This is a matter of financial justice and our government doesn't seem to care.
Let's remind them of their obligation to the Australian people.
