I would like to thank everyone for attending the Planning Commission meeting. The room was hot, unpleasant for those standing and very long, but your passion and commitment is invaluable.  The personal stories shared were impactful, heartfelt and some heartbreaking.

Attending upcoming meetings is essential, to let the Township know our dedication and determination to save Springfield and the lives of all 14,703 residents.

In addition, due to the volume of communications submitted to EGLE, the statement below has been provided:

EGLE Communications – Ormond Gravel Mine Project

John Jones, our dedicated contact at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), has shown an ongoing commitment to hearing public concerns about the proposed Ormond Road Gravel Mine in Springfield Township. His time and expertise are incredibly valuable—not just to our community, but to environmental protection efforts statewide.

Due to the high volume of emails and phone calls EGLE has received, it has become increasingly important to streamline communication so they can continue focusing on their critical environmental work.

To support this effort, John has asked that S.T.E.P. Board Member, Kara Okonewski, serves as a community point person for feedback and questions related to the Ormond mine proposal.

If you have concerns, questions, or information to share, please contact Kara @:
protectspringfield@gmail.com

She will compile and relay community input in a clear and constructive way, ensuring your voices are heard while respecting EGLE’s time, process, and mission.

Thank you for your continued dedication to protecting the land, water, and natural heritage of Springfield Township.

If you have an interest in volunteering and have not yet been contacted by the appropriate Chair, please feel free to reach out:
