Stop Government Overreach—Block Trump’s Wealth Fund Takeover of TikTok!
The Issue
On February 4, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a U.S. sovereign wealth fund—the first of its kind in American history. According to multiple reports, this fund is intended to pool surplus government resources (for example, tariff revenues) and other state-owned assets for strategic investments in national initiatives such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and research. Notably, Trump hinted that TikTok could be one of the fund’s first potential investments, suggesting that the U.S. might seek to acquire a significant stake in the popular social media platform owned by China’s ByteDance, partly to avoid a looming 10% tariff and address broader national security concerns
While I enjoy using TikTok, I strongly believe that the government should not have any ownership or control over social media platforms. This takes away from our freedom, as they can start jurisdiction on the platform.
We, the undersigned, call on Congress to immediately intervene and block President Trump’s executive order that creates a U.S. sovereign wealth fund—intended, among other purposes, to potentially purchase TikTok. This action represents an unprecedented overstep of governmental authority and poses a serious threat to free enterprise, free speech, and the democratic principles that our nation was built upon.
Why This Must Stop:

By establishing a sovereign wealth fund with the potential to acquire a popular private company like TikTok, the executive branch is directly interfering with the free market. The use of taxpayer funds and tariff revenues to control private assets sets a dangerous precedent and bypasses the necessary checks and balances of our constitutional system

TikTok is a vibrant platform that empowers millions of users to share creative content and exercise free speech. Government control or forced divestiture through a state-run fund risks turning TikTok into a tool for censorship and political manipulation, undermining the open digital space that fuels innovation and public discourse

A sovereign wealth fund designed to purchase a private company disrupts the competitive landscape that has allowed innovative firms like TikTok to thrive.
