Before we started this petition, we checked our facts and this is how we’ve done our calculations:
- Newbold Comyn covers an area of approximately 120ha (300 acres)
- The old golf course covers approximately 52ha
- The area of the Comyn where the trails are situated is approximately 22ha.
WDC have submitted landscaping plans for the area surrounding the trails. The drawings clearly show that the tree, scrub and meadow grass planting and sowing has been designed to restrict pedestrian access in that area to a few footpaths, and some small mown grass areas.
The area that will be affected because of access restrictions created by the trails and the associated landscaping will be approximately 40% of the area of the former golf course.
We know the council say that no one will be restricted and that everyone can continue to use all of the space as they did before, but that simply isn't the case. Pedestrian access to the old golf course, one of the most popular areas on the Comyn, will be severely restricted.
