This article mentions more medication delays due to mail order pharmacy. This one though is among those that have served our nation.
The article states, "One of his first calls was to Veterans Affairs."
"They told me that this situation has been going on at the Indianapolis facility for probably a couple months now."
Veterans who have given so much for their country are now being forced to fight an entirely different battle—one for their health. Due to ongoing mail order delays, many veterans are left without essential medications, sometimes waiting weeks for prescriptions that should have arrived by now. Tragically, some veterans have already paid the ultimate price. A veteran recently died while waiting for medication that never showed up. "They're going to try to get a voucher for me to go to the local pharmacy to get the medication that I need," Bellini explained, highlighting the absurdity of the situation. Veterans shouldn’t be forced to use a voucher just to access a local pharmacy. Local pharmacy access should be the standard, not the exception. This broken system, which requires veterans to jump through hoops for basic care, is failing those who’ve sacrificed everything. It’s time for a change—before more lives are lost.
It’s time to contact your federal legislators and let them know that America’s veterans deserve better than PBMs and forced mail order pharmacy. Mail order can be an option, but it should never be the only one. In fact, mail order pharmacy is one of the few areas in healthcare where no one is held accountable for the risks caused by delays and improper temperature control—except for the patients who are left suffering. This system, which puts lives on the line, is dangerously under-regulated by state boards of pharmacy. It’s time for change to ensure that veterans receive the timely, reliable care they’ve earned.
For many military members, the issue has worsened as Express Scripts became the pharmacy benefit manager of Tricare. Pharmacy benefit managers or PBMs like Express Scripts have been widely known for steering to their own pharmacies as they price gouge patients and tax payers.
