Thank you to those who are serving or have served our nation. We will continue to fight against the injustices of forced mail order pharmacy.

In recent years, a silent crisis has been unfolding in the lives of veterans across the nation - the disappearance of local pharmacy access. Once pillars of support and continuity, these community-based pharmacies are dwindling, leaving veterans stranded in a sea of uncertainty. The consequences of this loss extend far beyond mere inconvenience; they strike at the heart of veterans' well-being and healthcare stability, particularly as they are increasingly steered towards mail-order pharmacies.

1. Strained Accessibility: The erosion of local pharmacies means that veterans, especially those in rural or underserved areas, are grappling with strained accessibility to essential medications. The proximity that once eased the burden of obtaining prescriptions has been replaced by daunting journeys to distant pharmacies or, more concerning, a reliance on mail-order services, introducing potential delays and complications.

2. Erosion of Personalized Care: With the closure of local pharmacies, veterans not only lose a convenient source of medications but also the personalized care that often came with it. Pharmacists who knew their names, medical histories, and unique needs are replaced by impersonal chains or mail-order pharmacies, further alienating veterans from the support and understanding crucial to managing their health conditions effectively.

3. Disrupted Continuity of Care: The closure of local pharmacies disrupts the delicate balance of continuity in veterans' healthcare. The interconnected approach that local pharmacists had with physicians and healthcare providers is now fractured, increasing the risk of medication errors and lapses in care. This risk is exacerbated when veterans are directed towards mail-order pharmacies, introducing a potential disconnect in communication between healthcare professionals.

4. Delayed Medication Management and Safety Concerns: For veterans managing chronic conditions or mental health concerns, delays in medication management can have severe consequences. The shift towards mail-order pharmacies introduces a new set of challenges, including shipping delays, the potential for medication mishandling, lack of proper temperature control for most medications, and a lack of immediate access to a healthcare professional who can address concerns or provide guidance. These issues pose a threat to the safe and effective management of veterans' health.

5. Loss of Community Connection: Beyond the clinical implications, the disappearance of local pharmacies severs a vital connection to the community for veterans. These establishments were not just places to pick up medications; they were hubs of support, understanding, and a sense of belonging. The move towards mail-order services strips away this community integration, leaving veterans without the local support network that played a crucial role in their overall well-being.

In the face of this silent crisis and the shift towards mail-order services, it is imperative that we recognize the urgency of preserving and restoring local pharmacy access for veterans. The potential risks and disruptions introduced by remote, mail-order pharmacies must be carefully considered to ensure the safe and effective management of veterans' healthcare needs. By addressing this issue, we can reaffirm our commitment to the well-being of veterans, acknowledging their sacrifices and ensuring that they receive the care and support they deserve in the most secure and accessible manner possible.
