As an advocate for safe access to medication, I see parallels between our fight and the spirit of Independence Day. Both embody the pursuit of freedom, justice, and fundamental rights. Raising awareness, sharing personal stories, and mobilizing support are crucial.
Many are forced to rely on low-rated mail order pharmacies owned by insurance companies that jeopardize lives, cause delays, and store medications in only bags in 120-170 degree temperatures.
Insurance companies and their affiliated mail order pharmacies eliminate fair competition on quality and safety, leading to the closure of local pharmacies by this forceful steering and by overseeing their competitors' reimbursements. We need regulatory oversight, patient safety advocacy, and the preservation of local pharmacies for accessible healthcare. Through education and collective action, we can bring about positive change. I believe that we already are.
