Hi Everyone,
Today, I will pick up my son's medications from our trusted pharmacy. I will not have to risk his life or risk any lower potency medication, delay, loss, theft, or his life-saving medication being shipped to the wrong address. After the media picked up our story, I cannot describe how thankful I am to have won this option in our coverage. Yet, I am heavily saddened to think of every single person, patient, and caregiver reading this who doesn't have this option in their coverage today. Today, I know I will find at least 20 people suffering from issues with forced mail-order pharmacy. I will share patients complaints and stories on my social media pages. Afterward, I will feel very saddened and my heart will be heavy as I know there are many more and yet our regulators, employers, and state and federal government will be very hesitant to do anything to protect us from the pharmacy benefit managers unethical forcing of mail-order pharmacy for our life-saving medications.
We will keep fighting. We will win the right to ensure all patients have safe options of coverage. Due to the many risks discussed in this excellent article, mail-order pharmacy could be an option, but not forced.
Please read this article that sums up many of the issues with mail-order pharmacy. We must demand access in our coverage to our trusted pharmacy.
Part of the article reads,
"Insurers and PBMs claim that these delays are rare and that these programs are instituted to help manage costs and assist patients in managing their medications.
But, unsurprisingly, this isn’t the case – patients are routinely denied coverage or find their treatments significantly delayed."
"One example in Ohio found that cancer patients could have to wait up to a month to receive their oncology medications after their insurance and PBM have received the prescription."
