Wesley was getting ready to see Santa. I was watching him write. He made the shortest list. The first was for an item he wanted. The second was, "Safe Meds."
I asked, "Thats all?"
"Yes," Wesley said. I asked why. He said, "because that's all I could think of."
My heart is filled with emotion and yet I'm thankful for his heart.
This may be the shortest yet toughest Christmas wish to fulfill. He doesn't want just safe medications for him. He wants safe medications for everyone. He doesn't want any medications placed only in a bag and put on a "brown truck." He understands now the risks and how we truly feel his life was threatened in the past from the high temperatures of up to 170 degrees that the delivery trucks reach.
He doesn't like being in the hospital, and I refuse to take any risk of ever losing him. I want to make sure everyone, including him, always has the option of coverage to have a face to face relationship with their pharmacist.
When we were only given the option of mail order pharmacy for his life-saving medications, the only way we could get his medications from the pharmacist that knows him was if we paid 100% of the cost.
Since starting the petition, many pharmacist and supporters taught me that there are many other issues with mail order pharmacy. The face to face relationship with the pharmacist is crucial.
Patients are going days and weeks without medications that their life depends on. Medications are delayed, stolen, lost, damaged, and there are discharges from hospitals that are delayed.
I also learned that small independently owned pharmacies who serve their communities with their hearts are closing at a very rapid rate leaving some communities underserved.
I told Wesley that they say the US Government usually takes petitions seriously if they reach 100,000 supporters. Will you help us try to make Wesley's wish come true by signing and sharing the petition?
