The Kuria community has been urged by President William Ruto to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and support girl-child education.
The Head of State urged the community to end FGM right away and work with the government to improve the area while on an official visit to Kuria East constituency on Saturday.

"Let's put a stop to that" (FGM). I've heard that local guys are still adamant on cutting their women. No. I've declined. I want our girls to succeed in school. The males are silent here, why? The President declared that FGM must end.

President Ruto urged the community to concentrate on entirely eradicating FGM after pointing out that occurrences had decreased in the area.

"We must provide our kids with equitable opportunity. Please know that we value you, our daughters in Kuria."

One of the Kenyan communities with a high rate of FGM is the Kuria community, which is mostly situated in Migori County.
