Since the June 13–24 2025 conflict with Israel, executions in Iran have spiked sharply.
- 21 people were executed during the 12‑day conflict, including six accused of spying for Israel, and at least three Kurdish men were hanged in Urmia .
- By the end of June, 98 executions had taken place—a 119% surge compared to June 2024—and a total of 612 were carried out between January and June 2025, more than double the previous year .
- On July 7, five Kurdish activists from the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement were handed up to 12 death sentences collectively, following unfair trials and coerced confessions.
- Rights groups report that executions are being fast-tracked via sham trials, torture-based confessions, and are being used to instill fear and suppress dissent amid internal instability.
We urge the international community, UN bodies, foreign governments, and human rights organizations, to condemn this wave of political executions, demand transparency and independent judicial review, call for immediate suspension of all death sentences, and pressure Iran to reform its legal processes to ensure fair trials.
